Abu Dhabi: India produced one the most complete performances in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 so far to beat Scotland by 8 wickets and register their biggest win while chasing a target in the shortest format in Dubai on Thursday.
The Men in Blue needed to gun down 86 in 43 balls to take their net run rate past Afghanistan and New Zealand. India managed to do it in even lesser time, taking just 6.3 overs to cross the finish line to win with 81 balls to spare, their biggest win in T20 World Cup history and in the shortest format.
KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma smashed 70 runs in 5 overs before Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli finished the job for their second win in four matches. India now have the best NRR in Group 2 and hold third position behind Pakistan (already qualified) and New Zealand.
It was also the third biggest win in T20 World Cups in terms of balls to spare after Sri Lanka’s victory over the Netherlands (90 balls to spare) in 2014 and Australia’s win over Bangladesh on Thursday.
India’s win however, was actually set up by the bowlers who managed to bowl out Scotland for 85 in 17.4 overs with Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami grabbing 3 wickets each after Virat Kohli won his first toss of the tournament and elected to chase at the Dubai International Stadium.
